The surge of NFTs and blockchain gaming projects in the market now has something in common with the 2017 ICO bubble: they are mostly promises. Instead of writing intellectual whitepapers, currently all many of them have to do is to design a futuristic gaming video, build a roadmap, and raise money by selling in-game tokens or NFTs.

Needless to say, most of them are “ngmi” (not going to make it.) However, it would be unfair to dismiss the trend and miss a lifetime opportunity. An ideal investment plan should minimize risk by diversifying bets across potentially good games on multiple blockchains.

Over the last few weeks, we talked about some of the top games on EthereumSolanaAvalanche, and Polygon. In this email, I will talk about a game on a Bitcoin sidechain.

Infinite Fleet is the flagship project of Liquid Network. Liquid Network is a faster and cheaper Layer 2 on top of Bitcoin.

Prominent Bitcoin maximalists that include Bitcoin developers like Adam BackSamson Mow, and Litecoin creator Charlie Lee are behind this project.

Infinite Fleet is a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game that features collectible in-game spaceships launched as NFT on Liquid. The team is trying to emulate the gameplay of space-themed games like EVE and Homeworld. According to a web analytics firm, EVE has over 150,000 daily active users. Homeworld is another highly rated game, favorite among space fans.

Infinite Fleet is a Sci-Fi space adventure to defeat an Artificially Intelligent (A.I.) alien threat. Players team up to form fleets to fight against the aliens. There’s also open combat which will likely add player vs. player battle mode.

The game is being developed by Pixelmatic and published by Exordium. Founded in 2011, Pixelmatic has worked with top e-sports online titles such as World of WarcraftCompany of HeroesDawn of War, Mass Effect, and even Eve Online—which, as I mentioned above, is based on the same theme. These games have a multi-million dollar budget and a large user base in millions. Exordium as a publisher manages the business aspect of the game.

With Infinite Fleet, the team has taken careful steps to avoid speculation and regulatory risks.

The project involves a Security Token Offering (STO) for their profit-sharing token. According to the team, the token is “fully compliant and in the process of being registered with the SEC (U.S.) and CSSF Luxembourg (E.U.).”

There will be no governance token for the project, which reduces the regulatory risks around securities law application.

The team has also avoided speculation around their in-game currency, INF token, which is yet to be launched. INF tokens will be distributed based on participation in the game. The tokens will also enable the purchase of in-game items in the future.

To start earning INF tokens, you’ll require spaceships to fight off the aliens, battle against other players, or complete certain missions. These spaceships will be issued as NFT on the Liquid Blockchain when the game launches. The tentative launch date is sometime next year.

You can currently order these ships on the website’s marketplace, listed at a fixed price between $25-$80.

In comparison, the origination price of ships on a similar gaming project of Solana, Star Atlas, has been sold for up to $100,000. Many gaming guilds like YGG and Merit Circle have pledged millions of dollars to purchase them.

Currently, Infinite Fleet is under the radar of the mainstream NFT and gaming market on Ethereum and Solana. Thus, its ships are not very popular. However, I reckon it has the same chance of mainstream adoption as other MMO games, like Illuvium or Star Atlas, because of its vibrant developing team.

Don’t forget the game is backed by top Bitcoin influencers.

Given the low price of the ships, it presents a lucrative risk-reward ratio. The team recently also announced AFK (Away from Keyboard) missions, which will enable some passive income in INF tokens.
