This week, Ethereum Name Service (ENS) protocol launched its native token and distributed it to all of its early adopters.

The number of tokens each qualified user received was based on a calculation that considered how long an address had held a domain. On average, users received from 200 to 1000 ENS tokens.

At a current price of $58 per ENS token, this airdrop is worth $11,000—$58,000. To receive 200 ENS tokens, you would have needed to purchase an ENS domain before October 31st, which could have been done for as low as $5 plus gas fees.

In short, ENS allows mapping human-readable names like ‘alice.eth’ to machine-readable identifiers such as Ethereum addresses, other cryptocurrency addresses, content hashes, and metadata. For more information, read ENS documentation.

What’s interesting is that there are similar services on other chains that replicate ENS functionality. Given the success of ENS airdrop, some of them will likely airdrop tokens to their users as well.

So in this email, I will cover some of the ENS alternatives on other blockchains. You can start purchasing their domain names today and hope for an airdrop in the future.

Terra Name Service (TNS)

In the wake of ENS, TNS is quickly gaining popularity. Terra has a growing ecosystem, and its domain names are becoming more and more popular.

Currently, you can buy 5+ character TNS domains for as low as $24 per year; three-character domains currently cost $640 per year.

The project does not have a token yet. However, in the future, it will likely issue one.

Avalanche Name Service (ANS)

ANS protocol had a soft launch in April of this year. However, after a successful launch, the project announced that it needed more time to work on its infrastructure and stopped selling ANS domain names.

However, just recently the project announced an official partnership with Avalanche, and soon is planning to resume domain name sales:

We are excited to announce that Avvy Domains is partnering with Avalanche to bring the Avalanche Name Space to life. Avalanche users will soon be able to register & manage their .avax name, simplifying & enriching the Avalanche user experience.

I suggest subscribing to the project’s Twitter account and following their developments there.

One important note, people who purchased ENS domains a long time ago received a higher airdrop than those who purchased them last month, for example. So it might be a good idea to purchase a domain name from ANS as soon as they launch.

Tezos Domains (TD)

Similar to Terra, Tezos already has a fully functional project that sells Tezos domain names. You can buy .tez domains from the secondary market or register your domain name if the name is not taken.

Domain prices range from 1 to 100 XTZ per year.

Like other projects, TNS does not have a token yet, but plans to issue it in the future.

Final Thought

I have no doubts that the above services sooner or later issue their tokens and airdrop them to early adopters.

So, don’t waste your time and register a few domain names today. It should be worth it.
